Super Lawyers® is a reputable third-party attorney rating organization. Inclusion in the Super Lawyers® list is very limited, and only about 5% of attorneys in each state are chosen. About the Super Lawyers® Selection Process The Super Lawyers® organization uses a rigorous selection process to identify the most successful and respected attorneys in particular legal fields. The process involves 4 steps. Candidates are not allowed to campaign or solicit nominations. The 4-step process for selection in the Super Lawyers® list involves: Nomination Independent research Peer evaluation Final selection Candidates may be nominated by peers, third-party feedback, managing partner surveys, or members of the Super Lawyers® research team. Once nominated, candidates will be evaluated on 12 factors. These include verdicts and settlements, bar and professional activity, years of experience, position within the law firm, honors and awards, education and employment background, representative clients, pro bono and community work, transactions, scholarly lectures and writings, special certifications and licenses, and other outstanding achievements. Only attorneys who display the highest level of professional excellence, client satisfaction, successful case results, and high ethical standards will be considered for the next step in the process – peer evaluation. During this phase, Blue Ribbon Panel members will evaluate the candidates in their primary practice areas. Once the peer-review process is complete, those with the highest number of points will be selected for the final list. Before he was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison, Daniel “El Chapo Jr.” Jones was labeled a danger to society by both the judge and prosecutor. Jones was sentenced to prison and 100 hours of community service or job training by U.S. District Judge Walter Rice on January 4, 2018. Rice said Jones’ sentence would be served consecutively to any sentences given in pending cases in Vinton and Butler counties. So far, Jones has been incarcerated for 21 months. At the sentencing, Jones’s defense attorney, Nicholas Gounaris, asked Judge Rice to consider his client’s upbringing.  As a child, Jones’ father killed his mother and the only other male role models he had taught him the drug trade. Standing before more than a dozen of Jones’ supporter, Gounaris said, “He can be saved. He is redeemable.” Rice stated that he believes Jones’ sincerity about changing his life, but that the he “totally lacks tools and ability to carry those promises into reality.” Before his sentencing at Dayton’s U.S. District Court, Jones told Judge Rice that he took full responsibility for his actions and apologized to his friends and family, many of whom wrote letters of support on his behalf.  Jones also said he’d like to be around to help raise his infant daughter. In a letter written to rice, Jones stated, “I’m not glorifying or excusing my behavior. But I don’t need a decade or two to realize what I did was horribly wrong.” The calculation for Jones’ non-binding advisory sentencing was from 15 years to 8 months, and 19 years to 7 months. The statutory maximum for the drug conviction was 20 years and a $1 million fine, while the penalty for the weapons charge was 10 years and a $250,000 fine. D.H. was under the supervision of the Ohio Adult Parole Authority after serving three years in a state penitentiary for a conviction of Aggravated Robbery. On or about March 25, 2014, D.H. was charged with a parole violation on the basis that he possessed a firearm. If he was found to be in violation of his parole, D.H. could have served a sanction of up to 270 days of incarceration. On March 13, 2014, D.H. was in a vehicle that was pulled over by police officers who searched the vehicle and found a loaded firearm. D.H. was not allowed to be around firearms. As a result, D.H. was immediately arrested and was given a parole violation sanction and was transported to the Correction Reception Center in Orient, Ohio, where he awaited his hearing. D.H. hired Attorney Antony Abboud who attended his parole violation hearing at the Correction Reception Center on April 8, 2014. Attorney Abboud was able to convince the hearing officer that D.H. did not commit a violation because he did not have knowledge that there was a firearm in the vehicle. As a result, he was found not guilty of the violation and was released from prison.

Antony Abboud has been selected for inclusion in the 2014 Ohio Super Lawyers® Rising Stars list under the Criminal Defense practice area. While up to five percent of the lawyers in the state are named to the Ohio Super Lawyers® list, no more than 2.5 percent are named to the Super Lawyers® Rising Stars list in the entire state. Mr. Abboud has since been voted to the Super Lawyers® Rising Stars list consecutively from 2011-2014. Mr. Abboud is also a 10.0 “Superb” rating by Avvo, which is an attorney rating website recognized around the nation and has he has also been honored by The National Association Trial Lawyers as a Top 100 Trial Lawyer.
